Apple Previews New Accessibility Features Arriving Later this Year
On Accessibility Awareness Day, Apple has previewed a wide variety of new features arriving later this year for users with disabilities.
Door Detection is for users who are blind or low-vision. It will help users find a door at a new destination while also showing how far they are front and describe door attributes like whether it’s open or closed.
It will be available for any iPhone and iPad with LiDAR and also uses the camera and on-device machine learning.
For the Apple Watch, the device will add device mirroring. That will allow users to control an Apple Watch remotely from the iPhone. On the iPhone, users can take advantage of features like Voice Control and Switch Control.
The wearable device will also add more hand gestures. A new Quick Action will allow users to double-pinch to accomplish a number of tasks like answer or end a phone call.
Finally, Live Captions will arrive for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. That will allow users to follow along wit any audio content.
VoiceOver will also add support for 20 additional locales and languages.
