Key Apple Manufacturer Will Make an Augmented Reality Product
Apple metal casing manufacturer Catcher Technology will soon begin making parts for an augmented reality product. Could this be Apple’s long-rumored AR glasses? Perhaps, according to Nikkei Asian Review.
Catcher chairman Allen Horng recently said the following about his company’s entry into augmented reality products:
“Based on what we have learned, [new AR products] need to look good and be light enough to wear … that makes the casings for such device very complicated to manufacture and there are still a lot of challenges to overcome currently.
Horng didn’t announce which manufacturer is requesting AR parts. However, Catcher has deep ties with Apple, which has been rumored to be working on an AR product.
In iOS 11, Apple introduced ARKit, bringing augmented reality to iPhone and iPad for the first time. Reports since at least last year suggested the company would eventually introduce a pair of AR glasses to enhance the AR mobile experience.
