Bring Your Film Negatives and Slides Into the Modern Age with FilmLab

October 1, 2018

Even if you don’t have an old box of film or slides, you probably know someone who does. And a new app, FilmLab, is designed to help bring those cherished memories to the digital age with just a few clicks.

Previously, digitizing film or slides was a time consuming and costly process if you sent the work out to a third-party company. But FilmLab makes that process much easier.

All you’ll need is a light table or some type of backlight to get started. The app will work with both black-and-white and color film along with slides.

With FilmLab, you can inspect the negatives or proof sheets and see the live preview of a positive version. Just hit capture to import the image of an entire proof sheet or even just a single frame.

Built-in tools allow users to rotate or flip the image along with adjusting the exposure or color balance. Instead of just simple inversion, the app uses specific algorithms to create accurate colors and skin tones.

The results can be saved to your Camera Roll or shared via other outlets like AirDrop, Messages, or through social media.

FilmLab is designed for the iPhone and all iPad models. It can be downloaded now on the App Store for $5.99.

You’ll just need a light table or other back light, and the app will bring old images to an iPhone or iPad.
