Enter DisneyNow, Combining Three Entertainment Apps Into One
Soon, you won’t find Disney Channel, Disney XD, or Disney Junior on the App Store anymore. The entertainment conglomerate has, true to its word, combined that trio of cable channel apps into a single title: DisneyNow.
DisneyNow Helps Kids Enjoy Their Cable Shows
The move is aimed at helping young ones find the television shows they love. Kimberly Hicks, vice president of digital media for Disney Channels, told Variety, “The decision to consolidate our Disney Channel ‘Watch’ apps into the new DisneyNow app was driven by what kids told us they want in a video experience”
The three Disney Channel apps have been downloaded more than 40 million times since their 2012 debut, the company says. The new app combines full catalogs of all three cable networks into a single app, along with branded games and featured movies.
On-demand movies include Disney Channel’s “The Scariest Story Ever: A Mickey Mouse Halloween Spooktacular” (available even before the actual premiere) and “Wizard of Waverly Place: The Movie” on October 12.
User Profiles, Games and More
Another feature of the new app is the ability for each family member to create their own profile. These profiles are marked by a Disney emoji avatar from a selection of more than 180 characters at launch. The user profile allows a family member to resume watching a show where he or she left off, or watch new episodes of favorite shows.
DisneyNow also includes more than 60 games and activities based on the Disney franchise. There’s a “DuckTales” adventure game, “Flight of the Jaquins” with Princess Elena of Avalor, and a Villain Kids activity. Disney promises new games each month.
The app also includes Radio Disney’s musical performances, along with in-studio appearances by the likes of Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello, and others.
The new DisneyNow app is available for download now on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
