Bionic Warriors and Comic Creators on Display at GDC
We keep watching the fun in store courtesy of this week’s Game Developer Conference demonstrations in San Francisco. Trevor Sheridan is there, and so are folks from a number of other publications. TouchArcade clued us in on two upcoming Pixeljam titles on display at GDC that are sure to help you amp up your fun this spring and summer.
A Bionic Warrior Trying to Escape
The first game is Bionic HARL, an exciting upward scrolling venture that’s been pre-alpha for a while, but is seeing a lot of development love right now. You play as a newly-awaked bionic warrior who is trying to escape from captivity, blasting your way upwards using a jetpack. You have to avoid enemies and blasters, as well as spiked ceilings, as you soar ever upward. The game is still early in development, but the team plans to add weapons you can unlock and upgrade. There may even be mini-games within computer terminals you find along the way. Bionic HARL is probably going to launch on the Pico–8 platform first, then come to mobile. Pixeljam isn’t sure on the timeframe yet, but is hoping to release the game within the next couple of months. Check out the video of Bionic HARL in action below, courtesy of TouchArcade.
Create Your Own Comic Strips with BitKu
Pixeljam’s also putting more development time into BitKu, a four-panel comic creator already available on the web and PC or Mac via Steam. When you launch BitKu, you’re given a choice of two themes to inspire your micro-story. Then you get 10 cards with low-resolution graphics to use in creating your comic. These cards include backgrounds, items, and characters, and you can adjust them how you like. BitKu is already available to play around with in a web browser or on your computer, and should be arriving on mobile devices in the near future.
Lots of Fun on Display at GDC
There are plenty of great games and other diversions being demonstrated at GDC this year. We’ll continue following Trevor Sheridan’s adventures there, as well as other news from the expo floor.
