A New Flipboard Update Ushers in Personalized Smart Magazines
The curated news app Flipboard has taken a big step forward with a new update to version 4.0.
Smart magazines
Along with a redesigned app, the biggest addition is definitely the new Smart Magazine feature. A Flipboard blog post explains more about how it works:
At the heart of this edition is the Smart Magazine, a new way to organize the world’s stories, curated by experts and enthusiasts, into continually updating collections that can be personalized by you. Your Smart Magazines have a sleek new ‘shelf space’—the Home carousel—for quick access to important and inspiring content about your passions.
You’ll swipe left to add a specific topic to Flipboard, for example photography. After picking more precisely what kind of photography you’re interested in, Flipboard will provide a specific Smart Magazine.
It’s also easy to view magazines related to a specific topic and to build a custom Smart Magazine that can provide content from a selected source, person, publication, or hashtag.

Designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and all iPad models, Flipboard can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.
Apple Watch users can also take advantage of the surprisingly well designed app on the wearable device. Readers can view a photo and a quick summary about important stories. You can even send a specific story to friends.
While I’ve mostly switched over to Apple News for catching up on the latest news on my iOS devices, the updated Flipboard app definitely looks like a nice option if you’re looking for a different take on curated news.
