Pixel games never seem to go out of style, and plenty of them were on display at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Trevor Sheridan has brought us some great gameplay footage of an upcoming free-to-play example called Flipping Legend, where you collect heroes and powers to overcome a variety of baddies.
Become a Flipping Legend
In Flipping Legend, by Hiding Spot Games, you flip your character diagonally across a grid-like playing field. With the help of your hero’s powers, you can occasionally spring backward or leap forward, moving straight instead of diagonally. Most of the game, though, challenges you to jump diagonally, like a pawn in chess making its attack. Along the way, you smash gravestones, collect potions, and earn coins.
Heroes and Powers Galore
Flipping Legend looks to bring you plenty of heroes and powers to collect as you battle through the levels. You start off with a Ninja, but can unlock new heroes like the Archer, the Warlock, the Amazon, and more. Some of these heroes and powers can be unlocked using the gold you collect, but others require you to complete challenges like smashing a certain number of gravestones.
Upgrade Your Hero's Powers and Avoid Pitfalls
As you complete levels, you can upgrade your hero’s abilities and powers. The levels also get progressively harder, though, filling squares on the grid with pits, spikes, and even lava pools. This is where careful selection of which hero you use comes in handy.
Endless Play and Level Portals
If you want to keep trying a level to extend your streaks and high scores, you can do that. However, once you complete a level a certain number of times, you’ll unlock a portal that allows you to skip it, for a few gold coins. This is great for folks who want to see how far they can get through the levels, while still allowing those seeking Game Center high scores to do their thing.
Launching Soon on iOS
Flipping Legend is scheduled to be released within a month or two, and will be free to play. Check out the action in the video below, and stay tuned for more news about this and other upcoming games.
