The headline feature of iOS and iPadOS 15.1 that officially landed yesterday was SharePlay.
Using FaceTime, you share experiences with friends and family over FaceTime like listening to music or watching videos. With the update, a number of third-party apps have added SharePlay support. Here are some of the best.
CARROT Weather
One of the best third-party weather apps is making fun use of the feature. When on a FaceTime call, you can open up CARROT Weather and share conditions with friends.
The app is free and designed for the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. There are in-app purchases to unlock additional features.
Letter Rooms
Letter Rooms is a simple and fun word game. Featuring more than 300 puzzles, you’ll see a hint and a set of letter to create the answer. While at first you’ll just need to rearrange letters. But it gets progressively harder as you continue.
There are 12 different topics of puzzles like animals, pop culture, sports, or food.
With a new update, you can now use SharePlay for a collaborative sessions with others.
The game is for the iPhone and iPad. It’s a free download with a $0.99 in-app purchase to unlock all of the puzzles.
Mapless
Mapless is a different kind of walking app. Instead of providing turn-by-turn directions, the city walking app offers a simple arrow posting you in the right direction.
On the Apple Watch or iPhone, you see an arrow with how many minutes away from the destination you are.
Using SharePlay, start a FaceTime call with a friend. The app will point to where your friend is located as you walk toward each other.
The app is a free download and for the iPhone and Apple Watch. There is a subscription available for $0.99 a month of $4.99 per year. That unlocks Health Kit/Activity Ring support.
LookUp
LookUp is a dictionary app with much more. One of the best features is LookUp Learn that allows you to help build your vocabulary with a scientifically-proven method.
Thanks to SharePlay support, you can now learn together with a friend in peer learning sessions.
The app is available on the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac. It’s a $9.99 purchase.
Night Sky
Night Sky is one of the best astronomy apps on the App Store. And with a SharePlay update, you can begin a FaceTime Audio call and stargaze with someone else in real time. The app will even show everyone when you’ve found an object.
There can be a single host or you can collaborate on the session in real time.
The app is for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Mac. It’s a free download with a subscription of $4.99 per month or $29.99 to unlock most features.
Shhh!
Made specifically for FaceTime and SharePlay, Shhh! is a fun party game. You are at a sorbent location. Everyone playing its given roles and shown the location, with the exception of the spy. All the players will try to identify the spy while the spy attempts to guess the location with a series of questions.
You can also play the locally over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
The game is free for the iPhone and iPad. An in-app purchase of $2.99 allows you to create your own location packs.
Bluebird
Bluebird combines a focus timer and to-do app in beautifully designed package. Using SharePlay, you can start a focus session with friends.
