Have Fun on Your iPhone, iPad, and Mac Home Screen With Classic Widget Games
Interactive widgets are one of the best new features of iOS and iPadOS 17. And they are also available in macOS Sonoma that officially arrives to the public tomorrow.
Instead of simply viewing information from an app, you can interact with the widget so you can, for example, turn off a smart light, without needing to open up the app. A number of great apps are already taking advantage of the functionality.
But you can even use interactive widgets to have fun. Cromulent Labs, the developer behind the popular Launcher app, has just released a suite of six Classic Widget Games.
You can choose from six games—4 In A Row, Checkers, Chess, Minesweeper, Slide Puzzle, and Tic Tac Toe.
All of the games can be played directly on your home screen, just add the widget. And while the games are classic, there are some modern ways to play.
In one-player mode, you can battle against an AI opponent. You can choose from the difficulty level of the AI.
There is also a local two-player mode where you can battle others in the same room. For even more fun, you can use Game Center for two-player battles online against others around the world. Along with the widget, you can also play the game inside the app.
All of the games are free to download now on the App Store. You can play on an iPhone or iPad with iOS 17 and a Mac with macOS Sonoma installed.
The free versions have ads and don’t allow you to choose a theme. To remove ads and unlock themes, there are two different ways to select from. You can make a $2.99 in-app purchase in each separate game. Or you can subscribe to the Classic Widget Game Pass for $4.99 per year that works with all six titles.
