Microsoft's New Office App Combines Word, Excel and PowerPoint for iPhone

February 19, 2020

Microsoft is making it even easier to access Word, PowerPoint, and Excel on your iPhone with the release of the new all-in-one Office app.

The big advantage of the app is that there’s no longer a need to switch apps when using Microsoft’s programs. It also will save a significant amount of space on your iPhone when compared to downloading three distinct apps.

With the new app, you’ll be able to use Microsoft’s Lens technology. You can convert images into editable Word and Excel documents, scan PDFs and capture whiteboards with digital enhancements that make the text easier to read.

In the coming months, Microsoft says it is planning on voice dictation in Word, a card view in Excel to make it easier to view and edit data, and the ability to write a presentation as an outline and have PowerPoint Designer create slides.

The Office app is for the iPhone and can be downloaded now for free. There is a subscription needed, starting at $6.99 per month, to unlock most features.

Microsoft said it is planning to eventually bring the app to iPadOS.
