Mimestream is a Top-Notch Gmail Client for the Mac
If you’re tired of juggling with the Gmail site to battle your inbox, take a look at the newly launched app Mimestream.
The native Mac app is different than other options for a big reason. Instead of using IMAP, the app taps the Gmail API to bring deeper support for Gmail features your familiar with.
One of the best features is the ability to organize multiple accounts. Instead of a unified inbox, you can use different profiles to silo Gmail accounts. The stock options are personal and work, but those can be customized. You can assign custom icons, colors, and even notifications on a specific schedule.
Another great option is the ability manage Gmail Filters directly in the app. Filters sync with Gmail and run on the server even when your Mac is offline.
When it’s time to hit the beach, or anywhere else, you can also run the Gmail Vacation Filter from the app as well.
It’s also easy to label or star message in the app to better organize email.
To quickly see if you missed a message, there is also a menu bar extra. Just click on the message to open up Mimestream.
Mimestream can be downloaded now directly from the official site. You can try out the app free, with no credit card required for a 14-day trial.
After that, you will need a subscription. That’s $4.99 per month or $49.99 yearly. To celebrate the launch, and until June 9, you can grab a year subscription for $29.99.
I’m a heavy Gmail users with multiple accounts, and my short time with the app I’ve been very impressed. It’s fast, easy-to-use, and provides an experience as good as the Gmail site itself. Being able to juggle a work and personal account makes Gmail less of a chore.
