More 'iPhone 7' Packing Shows Bundled 'AirPods'

It's looking more likely that they'll be a paid upgrade
September 2, 2016

It’s starting to look more and more likely that Apple will offer an optional pair of “AirPods” with the “iPhone 7” when it gets unveiled next week.

AppleInsider has posted a set of images of what looks like iPhone 7 packaging, showing included “AirPods,” Apple’s yet-to-be-announced wireless earbuds.

Just yesterday, images surfaced showing something very similar, except with the “iPhone 7 Plus,” leading some to believe Apple would only include the AirPods with the larger, phablet-like device. Today, however, images show the same thing but for the smaller, 4.7-inch iPhone 7.

This is both good and bad news for those looking to get Apple’s state-of-the-art earphones. The good news is that you won’t need to buy an iPhone 7 Plus to get them. The bad news is that it’s starting to look more like it’s going to be a paid upgrade.

How much if it’s a paid upgrade? Who knows? But if is a paid upgrade, it could work out in Apple’s favor, especially since so many iPhone owners are paying monthly fees for their devices, either through their mobile carrier or Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program.

Also, keep in mind these could be fake, something that’s all too common leading up to Apple events.

I’m still hoping Apple includes a set of basic wireless EarPods with the standard iPhone 7, but it’s starting to look pretty unlikely at this point.
