Motor Trend poorly imagines what the ‘Apple Car’ might look like

Science fiction gone haywire

No one knows what the rumored “Apple Car” might actually look like. But the good folks at Motor Trend tried, and definitely failed, in a new story.

Even though the main article is titled “Apple Car exclusive,” the actual story is bit laughable. The concept, designed by Garrett DeBry and rendered by Mind Over Eye, looks more like a police car from “Blade Runner” combined with a Toyota Prius.

That’s not even mentioning the gold color lifted from current iOS devices and the garish Apple logos on the wheel wells.

An interior concept is even more laughable. Imagined as an electric and self-driving car, the steering wheel is square while the accelerator and brake pedal sports volume-like “+” and “-“ symbols.

I suspect Apple's car will look much more like Tesla's Model X rather than Motor Trend's concept.

I suspect Apple's car will look much more like Tesla's Model X rather than Motor Trend's concept.

Back in September, a report from The Wall Street Journal said that Apple is shooting for the car to hit the market in 2019, which is an extremely ambitious schedule in the world of auto manufacturing.

Earlier this year, Apple reportedly placed a hiring freeze on the “Project Titan” team. That came after the project’s former head, Steve Zadesky, left Apple.

More than 1,000 employees are supposedly assigned to the project.

If you’re up for a good laugh, make sure to head to Motor Trend’s site and look at all of the images and even a video. If Apple’s vehicle turns out to look anything like that concept, I’ll be sticking with my old-school Jeep Wrangler until the engine falls out.
