With the introduction of the rugged Apple Watch Ultra and it’s large display and multi-day battery life, many users have been looking to take their device on the go and leave the iPhone at home.

We’ve previously highlighted apps like WorkOutDoors, a powerful Apple Watch app that provides real-time maps while exercising outdoors. That makes it perfect for hiking or backpacking. And you can also download maps to save on the watch that are accessible online.

And the new Goose Maps is a standalone app for the Apple Watch available online or offline.

Instead of just exercise, the app is made for pedestrian or bike navigation without an iPhone.

To get started, just find where you want to go and then you can select whether to walk or bike. The app will then create a route for you to travel.

But the app provides much more. You can use the search feature to find place like restaurants, banks, hotels, and more.

To keep places easily accessible you can bookmark them to access later.

Another great feature is the ability to select from a light or dark color scheme. There is also the option to select from a hiking style map that will show elevation lines and contrasting trails for hiking.

Goose Maps is a free download on the App Store now for the Apple Watch. With the iPhone version, you can change the color scheme and toggle the hiking map style on or off.

When downloading, you can take advantage of a free, seven-day trial of the app. After that, it requires a subscription. That’s $1.49 per month or $11.49 a year.

To make sure the app is installed on your Apple Watch, open up the companion Watch app on your iPhone. In the My Watch tab, scroll down to the Available Apps section and choose Install next to Goose Maps.
