NeuralCam Brightens Up Your Low-Light and Night Photographs

August 27, 2019

NeuralCam is a new photography app that wants to shine a light on your low-light and night shots.

An image taken with Apple's stock camera on the left and the same image with NeuralCam on the right.

The app uses AI and computational photography to help capture brighter and clearer images.

Capturing an image with the app is simple. First, point to the target and then let the app lock on focus. Hit capture and then hold still while the app captures a number of different images. After a bit of processing, you’ll see the final result. All of the work is done on the phone.

I’ve been using the app around my home in a number of low-light situations, and it definitely works of adveristed. While the results are far from perfect, it does significantly brigthen low-light scenes. I’ll be interesrted to see how it does with photography at night.

Designed for the iPhone, NeuralCam Night Photo can be downloaded now on the App Store for a discounted $2.99 for a limited time. It will usually cost $5.99.

You can use the app on an iPhone 6 and later running iOS 12. You’ll need an iPhone 7 or later to use the app on both the front-facing and rear-facing camera.

For most iPhone models, the app will take a photo with a 1920×1440 resolution. The iPhone XS and iPhone XS max will capture a larger 4032×3024 image.
