No Embedded Touch ID on the Apple 'iPhone 8' Per Top Analyst

Apple Rumors
August 7, 2017

Sorry, folks, but it looks like there will be no embedded Touch ID on the front of the “iPhone 8.” This news comes from well-connected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who told investors late last week that Apple “canceled” these plans sometime earlier this year according to AppleInsider.

Back in July, Kuo was among the first analysts to suggest that production issues have forced Apple to abandon plans for an embedded Touch ID home button on this year’s flagship device. At the time, the analyst said the iPhone 8 would instead include 3-D sensing for facial recognition and “improved selfie quality.”

Since then, other analysts and leaks have followed Kuo’s lead suggesting the same or similar news.

What about Touch ID? I can’t imagine Apple would remove Touch ID from the company’s most important product in at least some format. Assuming Kuo’s reporting is correct, I would think this would mean the iPhone 8 will now include a physical Touch ID button on the back of the device.

Assuming Kuo’s reporting is correct, I would think this means the iPhone 8 will now include a physical Touch ID button on the back of the device. A leak on July 20 suggests this is where things are headed.

Apple could announce this year’s iPhone lineup as early as Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Would you be upset if the iPhone 8 didn’t have an embedded Touch ID? Let us know in the comments below.
