Snotty Gesundheit! Proves not all 32-bit Games Have Been Abandoned
While the list of titles that won’t work on iOS 11 is still quite long and extensive, at least one snot-inspired game has found its way off that inventory. The grotesque puzzler Gesundheit! has recently been given a long-delayed update, in part to bring 64-bit support to the game.
ICYMI, 32-Bit Apps are Outdated
Apple has made it clear for quite some time that support for 32-bit apps was ending. Recently, Cupertino even went so far as to remove said titles from search results on the App Store. It makes sense, considering 64-bit iPhones have dominated the ecosystem since 2013, but there were plenty of holdouts. These apps hadn’t been updated since 2015, and were likely abandoned.
That’s clearly not always the case, however. App developer Revolutionary Concepts originally released Gesundheit! in July 2011, and did a pretty good job of keeping the game updated for a couple of years. The game went on to win several awards from IGN, TouchArcade, and others. However, the puzzler has been neglected since early 2013, and it’s even suffered from missing sound effects and music for a few years.
Revisiting a Game That’s all About Snot
Apparently Revolutionary Concepts wasn’t really ready to give up on its snot-inspired puzzle game. Last week, June 6, the title got its first update in more than four years. It’s technically a modest upgrade, but still enough to bring the game back into search results and allow it to run on iOS 11.
Gesundheit! now supports higher resolution graphics for more capable iPhones and 64-bit app support. The developers have also located the missing music and sound effects, shepherding them back into the fold. What they haven’t done, unfortunately, is combine the iPhone and iPad versions into a Universal game, so you’ll have to purchase it separately to play on both your smartphone and your tablet.
If you’ve never heard of Gesundheit! before, don’t feel bad. I hadn’t either. From the trailer, though, it looks like plenty of fun. You can check it out for yourself for $2.99 on the App Store.
