New Study Confirms Apple Watch Can Detect Abnormal Heart Rhythm
For the second time in less than a year, a study has found that the Apple Watch can detect an abnormal heart rhythm with 97 percent accuracy.
“Passive Detection of Atrial Fibrillation Using a Commercially Available Smartwatch” has just been public in the JAMA Cardiology.
The results were from 9,750 users of the Cardiogram app enrolled in the UC San Francisco’s Health Heart Study.
It also confirmed a previous study released in May 2017.
Interestingly, Cardiogram’s DeepHeart deep neural network was more accurate in sensitivity and specificity compared to an FDA-cleared Apple Watch ECG attachment.
Atrial fibrillation affects 1 in 4 and causes a quarter of all strokes.
Just last month, a separate study from Cardiogram showed that the Apple Watch can even be used to detect early diabetes symptoms.
Cardiogram is designed for the iPhone and can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.
