Another day, another iPhone rumor

We’re halfway through July, which for Apple fans means about six more weeks of “iPhone 7” rumors. The latest comes in the form of a video purportedly showing Apple’s next handset in the wild.

The six-second video, which was discovered on Chinese social media website Weibo by Techtastic, is notable for what it doesn’t show: a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Is this really the next iPhone? Probably, but not yet definitively.

Last September, I noted that my rule of thumb has been to trust Apple rumors published after Aug. 15 each year. This rule was broken only twice in recent years. In 2011, Apple announced the iPhone 4s, not the iPhone 5. In 2014, Cupertino made a last minute decision not to release an iPhone 6 Plus with a sapphire crystal display.

In other words, stay tuned.

How has AppAdvice been spending its summer, besides testing iOS 10 and trying to catch Pokémon? By sitting in front of an Apple TV.

In recent weeks, we’ve been making significant changes to our Apple TV pages. Although this process is ongoing, our AppAdvice/TV homepage gives you an idea where things are heading.

We want AppAdvice to be the No. 1 best place for go for Apple TV news and commentary. A big part of this are our new “Best of” lists:

These lists are fluid and change as new apps are rated, so you’ll never know what we might uncover next. These lists are also a work in progress, so you should expect some added tweaks in the coming days.

We want your feedback on our AppAdvice/TV homepage. Send us a tweet and let us know your thoughts, good and bad.

T-Mobile gets into the Pokémon Go phenomena

As part of the company’s new T-Mobile Tuesdays promotion, T-Mobile is offering customers the chance to play Pokémon Go with a zero-rating. T-Mobile doesn’t have overages with its data plans, but they do throttle if you go over your monthly allotment. With this promotion, playing the game won’t push you in this direction — not just on Tuesdays, every day of the week.

To take advantage of this, you’ll need to visit the T-Mobile Mobile Tuesday app and sign up. The promotion is good for one year.

Here’s the full offering, courtesy of T-Mobile:

  • Free, unlimited data on Pokémon Go, so it won’t touch your high-speed data—for a full year!
  • Free Lyft rides up to $15 to get to a new PokéStop or Gym
  • Free Wendy’s Frosty to fuel up for your hunting trip
  • 50% off select accessories – including portable power packs and chargers at T-Mobile stores – so you can keep on playing for hours
  • 250 people will each win $100 in PokéCoins
  • Five people will win a Pokémon Go hunting trip anywhere in the U.S. for themselves and a guest!
