This slim iPhone case offers waterproof impact protection
Dog & Bone has created a case that offers a kind of protection usually only found in bulky cases. Like some of its thicker, heavier competitors, it protects against both impact and water. Your phone gets complete coverage with the Wetsuit Impact case.
The Facts
Overview
The first thing I noticed out of the box is just how lightweight this case is. It snapped onto my phone easily and added very little bulk. Included in the box is a headphone adapter, which you’ll only need if your headphone plug is bent rather than straight.
The case has a built-in plastic screen protector, which even covers the home button. Covered are all ports and buttons. The Sleep/Wake button, Ring/Silent switch, and volume buttons all have operational buttons covering them. The dock-connector port and headphone jack both have little doors covering them, which you can open as needed. A thin plastic layer covers the microphone, camera, and speakers.
What I liked
The Wetsuit Impact case lives up to its claims of being waterproof. I performed the waterproofing test as explained in the instructions, submerging the case in several inches of water, with a mug on top to weigh it down. I left it underwater for a good 20 minutes. I had placed a napkin inside, so I’d be able to see if even a drop of water made its way inside. None did.
My daughter inadvertently did a drop test from about three feet off the ground. The iPhone did not suffer any damage.
I keep a glass screen cover on my iPhone, and I noticed that it affected the screen sensitivity inside this case. So I took it to the Apple Store to test touch screen sensitivity on a bare iPhone, and it worked just fine. All of the buttons and port doors are fully operational while the cameras and flash are unobscured.
What I didn't like
This case isn’t attractive. It’s not ugly either. But it’s plastic, and designed with a focus on function rather than aesthetics. I realize that for many people, function is all that matters. Personally, I like an attractive, as well as, functional case.
As I mentioned, all of the buttons do work within the case, but it takes a little finesse to work the Ring/Silent switch. You have to push both down and to the side to get it work.
If you do like to switch up your cases, do keep in mind that a screen protector, either glass or plastic film, will make the touch screen harder to use. You’ll want a bare screen underneath this case for full functionality.
Bottom line
If you’re looking for both water and impact protection, you can feel safe with Dog & Bone’s Wetsuit Impact iPhone 6s/6 waterproof, rugged case. It’s not pretty, but it passed my tests with flying colors. You can purchase this case on Amazon for $48.99 including shipping.
