Use HomeScan to Help Improve Your Bluetooth-Powered HomeKit Devices

May 22, 2018

While a large majority of HomeKit devices use Wi-Fi, there are some smart home products rely on only Bluetooth to communicate with iOS devices, an Apple TV, or HomePod.

HomeScan for HomeKit

HomeScan can help to diagnose signal issues and improve the responsiveness of the Bluetooth devices.

Using the app is easy. Open it up and then place your iPhone on a HomeKit Hub — either an Apple TV or HomePod. Select the HomeKit accessory to diagnose the signal strength.

Anyone with an Apple Watch can then take a signal sensor with them to find an optimal location for the device. If you don’t own the wearable device, HomeScan can also verbally announce the current signal strength.

Users can also view the peak and average signal strength of existing devices over a specific amount of time.

Designed for the iPhone, HomeScan can be downloaded now on the App Store for $0.99.

While the app is simple, it can be a huge help for anyone looking to make the most of their existing HomeKit setup or to install new Bluetooth-powered devices.
