Watchsmith Update Brings Dynamic, Interactive Maps on Apple Watch
Originally landing back in April, Watchsmith provides a new level of customization to an Apple Watch.
Dynamic Maps
The big draw of the app is the ability to create dynamic complications to appear on different watch faces. You can personalize each complication with font, color, hand type, and location. Then you can select what is displayed when using time-based triggers.
And the app has gotten a big new addition in a version 1.3 update.
Dynamic maps appear in a trio of new features. First up, in the dynamic weather map shows an animated view of the precipitation in the last hour. You can pan around the view by swiping your finger on the watch screen and uses the Digital Crown to zoom in and out. A double-tap on the screen will also quickly zoom in.
While on an outdoor workout, you can view a live map with your current position. It will also show where you were and the current direction of travel.
And in any workout with a route track, whether or not it was recorded with Watchsmith, you can see a full map of the path. You can also zoom into an interactive version.
You can download Watchsmith now on the iPhone or Apple Watch for free.
While most of the functions and features can be used in the free version, there is a subscription for $1.99 per month or $19.99 yearly.
That provides access to hosted data sources, which currently includes weather and tides, and exclusive complication styles. You’ll need to subscribe to take advantage of the interactive radar map.
