Why Apex Legends Mobile Is Set to Dominate the Mobile Shooter Genre

July 13, 2022

There have been more mobile spin-offs of PC and console shooters than we can count at this point.

Apex Legends Mobile, or ApexM to its friends, is arguably the best of the bunch.

Released in 2019, the original Apex Legends is EA’s answer to blockbuster shooters like Fortnite and PUBG. Its 3D battlefields, customizable skill sets, and a huge roster of playable characters have seen it becoming a global sensation in its own right.

ApexM, an awesome mobile spinoff co-developed by EA’s Respawn Entertainment and Tencent’s LightSpeed Studios Group, became an instant hit when it came out earlier this year. On the day it launched it was the most downloaded free app in 80 different regions on the App Store regions and 44 on the Google Play Store. And it went on to rack up 22 million downloads worldwide in its first month, 5 million of those in the US.

We’re not surprised. ApexM is an uncannily faithful port of the PC original, with the same fast-paced combat, pin-sharp graphics, maps, and more.

Naturally, it features a familiar roster of legends, including Wraith, Bloodhound, Caustic, Gibraltar, Lifeline, and Pathfinder, along with a new addition called Fade.

The three-player squad system remains intact, allowing you to match your skills with two other players to create the perfect triangle of military might before jumping in an intense and exciting battle.

Different from the PC version, ApexM introduced a new Legend Growth system which offers players three typys of perks, namely Perks, Finishers and Ability. Players could unlock and configure them to perform innovative strategy play.

ApexM gots its first big content update on June 15 with Cold Snap, featuring a new legend, a new limited time game mode (Armed and Dangerous), and a new Battle Pass. Notably, some of the interesting designs such as execution animations that players have come to know and love from the PC/console release have made a comeback. It’s not hard to see that ApexM tries to bring in new content and gameplay as fast as it could and to provide a better gaming experience for its community.

Now the team behind ApexM is working towards and actively considering building its own esports scene. An esports-friendly 3v3 team deathmatch mode was introduced, as well as customizable UIs and a choice of First-Person Perspective (FPP) or Third-Person Perspective (TPP), facilitating ApexM’s esports endeavors while providing a better gaming experience for its community.

There are many more updates to come, keeping the game fresh and maintaining the challenge.

To get involved, download ApexM for free right now on the App Store or via Google Play.
