Widgetsmith Celebrates 100 Million Downloads By Adding Gradient Backgrounds

March 8, 2023

Landing in 2020 along with iOS 14, Widgesmith helped super charge home screen customization.

With a huge variety of options, the app allows anyone to build the home screen they want using different customizable widgets. Starting with iOS 16, the app has also moved into lock screen customization as well.

And the app has recently hit a huge milestone, 100 million downloads.

Developer David Smith shared more about the milestone in a blog post:

On the user side, I am very grateful for the users who find Widgetsmith useful. There are few feelings as gratifying as seeing something you made enriching the lives of others. In this case, seeing Widgetsmith allow people express their creativity and personality in their iPhone has been remarkable to observe. Every time I see a Widgetsmith widget out in the ‘real world’ it is an absolute thrill.

Also, I am incredibly thankful for all my users who have shared Widgetsmith with their friends and family. I am not a big company with a gigantic marketing budget, I’m a single developer with no marketing budget. Widgetsmith’s growth is entirely down to word-of-mouth sharing, which I am incredibly thankful for.

To celebrate the milestone, the app has recently been updated with a fun new option—gradient backgrounds.

All users can take advantage of golden gradient themes.

Widgetsmith is designed for the iPhone and all iPad models. It’s a free download on the App Store now.

A subscription is needed to use make use of the new premium gradient themes and the ability to edit them.

Subsribers can also use weather and tide data along with air quality and pollen information in widgets.

You’ll also receive access to use premium photo filters, themes, and fonts.

That’s $1.99 per month or $19.99 annually.

Smith has been busy with his other apps as well. Just last week, popular fitness tracking app Pedometer++ updated to version 5.0.

Among the new features include iPhone workout tracking, Action Button Support for the Apple Watch Ultra, a map-based workout mode, and support for Live Activities on the lock screen and Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro lineup.
