Quirky App Of The Day: Soften Your Heart And Ice Cream With Haagen-Dazs Concerto Timer
Häagen-Dazs Concerto Timer (Free) by Häagen-Dazs® is a fun app that makes the wait for your ice cream to thaw a little more bearable. Normally, I’m stubborn and will chip away at my ice cream sliver by sliver until it warms enough for me to carve out a spoonful. With this handy and beautiful timer, I found that I could manage to wait.
In the spirit of testing this app thoroughly, we bought a pint of gelato, sorbet, and ice cream to make sure that the app would work for all three types. Really, this was all in the name of investigative journalism and not out of an inability to just choose one kind. I was being a thorough professional.
We opened the app and lined up the lid with the outline on the screen. You’ll see the lid on your screen begin to glow, and then you can move your phone to get a sideways view of the carton. The app will then show a video of a violinist or cellist playing on top of the carton of ice cream as if it was a stage. When the song is over, the ice cream has thawed enough for you to eat.
If you start the video on one carton, and then place another one next to it, the other one will light up and begin to play as well. You’ll see a violinist play on one carton and a cellist play on the other. We tried to get three cartons to play the video, but the app seems to be limited to only two cartons at a time.
We were impressed by how interactive the app is. If you bring your phone closer to the ice cream carton, the music will become louder, and the app will zoom in on the performer. You can also rotate the carton and the video will turn with it. I was pretty impressed
While the app is meant to be a timer, I was pretty entertained by the quality of the video and how interactive it was. I had fun testing the limits of the app. The fact that I could eat some ice cream when I was done testing the app was an extra perk.
Haagen-Dazs Concerto Timer is an iPhone app, and it’s available in the App Store for FREE!
