Quirky App Of The Day: Those Mother-Fluffing Felines Are At It In Street Cats

August 19, 2013

Street Cats ($0.99) by First Commit, LLC is an action game that keeps you busy with as many rats as you can handle. As a tough cat that’s used to the hardships of living on the streets, you know that it’s survival of the fittest. That’s why you have no patience for these tough rodents, and you’re prepared to show them who’s boss.

Swipe at these rogue rats to slice them in half with a flick of your paw. Don’t be surprised when blood and brains fly across the screen. You’re one mean kitty, and this war against the rats has hardened your little feline heart. Give those rodents no pity.

Moving takes a little more finesse. Just because you’re a killing machine doesn’t mean that you don’t require some grace. You’ll need to make longer swipes to move your cat from one side of the screen to the other.

If you think that you’re limited to only moving from one side of the screen to the other, then you’ve forgotten the main rule of being a cat: Always land on your feet. These cats jump just like any other. Swipe up to give your cat some lift, and swipe down to pound any rats underneath you.

Those sneaky little rodents have a few surprises up their sleeves. Nature has given you deadly claws and killer instincts. The rats are going to need some top notch strategy to keep them from being filleted. Some rats have ninja-like moves to make the kill more difficult, while some roll in a massive ball to try and squish you.

Regardless of what plans these rats come up with, you can handle them. As you kill more rats, your score multiplier increases. Each one you kill increases the multiplier by one.

Normally, your score only gives you bragging rights. In Street Cats, you can unlock new game modes with your high score such as Time Trial or Dodge. You can also use your kill count to unlock new locations. You can’t buy these modes and locations. You’re going to have to earn them.

Normally, endless action games can become boring all too quickly. Street Cats keeps the action fresh and enjoyable by giving you score goals to work toward. The animation and backgrounds are great, and the premise of acting out the deep grudge between cats and rats is satisfying.

Street Cats is a universal app, and it’s available in the App Store for $0.99.
