Push the pedal to the Metal on iOS 8 in Gameloft's Asphalt 8: Airborne

September 18, 2014

Electronic Arts’ Real Racing 3 is not the only wildly popular racing game that has received a significant update following the official launch of iOS 8. Gameloft’s very own Asphalt 8: Airborne has also just been updated, and with Metal optimizations on iOS 8, no less.

Thanks to what Gameloft says is the biggest update yet to the game, Asphalt 8: Airborne now boasts visual enhancements made possible by Metal, Apple’s low-overhead hardware-accelerated graphics API on iOS 8.

Apparently in celebration of this, the new version of the game also features an exclusive Metal season where you can race against three times as many opponents as any other game in the Asphalt series. Like the game’s Metal-enabled graphics upgrades, this season is available only on iOS 8 on A7- or A8-powered devices, including iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, and iPad mini with Retina display.

The latest update to Asphalt 8: Airborne also brings the following gameplay enhancements:

  • Discover the high-speed heat of San Diego Harbor. Take off from an aircraft carrier and dodge helicopters while taking in the sights!
  • 5 new cars to master: The Koenigsegg One: 1, Mazda Furai, Maserati MC12, Savage Rivale GTR and Peugeot Onyx. Look for each one coming out over the days and weeks to come!
  • Multiplayer Events: You asked for it, and here it is. Race head-to-head for the ultimate rewards!
  • 4 new car collections. Time to stock your garage and get your rewards!

The new version of Asphalt 8: Airborne is available now on the App Store for free.
