Rovio launches Metal-enhanced Clash of Clans competitor Plunder Pirates
Coinciding with the release of iOS 8, Angry Birds creator Rovio has launched a new iOS game called Plunder Pirates.
Developed by Midoki and released by Rovio under its Rovio Stars publishing banner, Plunder Pirates is basically Clash of Clans with pirates.
As explained in its launch trailer below, the game has you building your very own pirate island, recruiting a crazy crew of pirates, and battling other pirates all in the name of pillage and plunder.

Plunder Pirates challenges you to:
- BUILD an epic 3D pirate island then spin it 360° to see every angle!
- ASSEMBLE a crazy pirate crew from 10 seafaring scoundrels!
- EXPLORE uncharted waters in your mighty galleon!
- BATTLE rival Captains, ransack enemy islands and plunder their booty!
- JOIN a Pirate Guild with your friends and enjoy exclusive Guild perks!
Plunder Pirates is available now on the App Store as a free-to-play title.
The game is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later. It’s especially optimized for A7- or A8-powered devices (iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display) running iOS 8 as it’s enhanced by Metal, Apple’s low-overhead hardware-accelerated graphics API.
