Skype for iPhone update brings interactive notifications for iOS 8 devices

September 22, 2014

Skype for iPhone has just been updated to take advantage of a major new feature in iOS 8 – interactive notifications.

With version 5.5 of the app, users can now answer voice and video calls and even jump directly into text conversations from the lock screen, Notification Center, or a banner notification.

To make sure you’ll be able to see the information from Skype, check that notifications are enabled by heading to Settings and then Notifications.

Skype for iPhone can also be used by the iPod touch. It can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.

A major 5.0 update landed in early summer. Along with a modern UI, that version brought a number of under-the-hood performance improvements and in-app notifications. An update released earlier this month ushered in group audio calling for the first time.

A separate version of the app for the iPad/iPad mini, which is also a free download, has yet to be updated and still features the older UI.
