Instagram Updated With Rich Notifications in iOS 10
Instagram has just received an update that brings about a couple of notable changes. One has to do with how likes are shown, while the other has to do with how push notifications are displayed.
Friendly likes
The release note for the latest update to Instagram carries a simple message from the folks behind the popular photo and video sharing app. “We’re making it easier to see when someone you follow has liked a post,” the Instagram team says. “After 4 likes, posts show the number of likes, along with usernames of some people you follow who have liked it.”
Indeed, instead of showing only the number of likes for a photo or video, Instagram now also shows a couple of usernames of people you follow who have liked the post. This lets you know right away that people you follow have engaged with the post, without your having to dive into the list of likers.
Rich notifications
It’s not mentioned in the update’s brief release note, but support for rich notifications in iOS 10 is also introduced in the new version of Instagram.
Consequently, swiping on an Instagram notification lets you see and like the corresponding post directly on the lock screen or Notification Center — no need to open the app itself. The rich notification also includes an option to reply to the post, although selecting it opens the app to a comment screen.
