“Essay is essential writing”

Essay is a rich text editor that offers only the most essential formatting options to keep the writer concentrated on the document. The file format used is HTML which is itself is the base format of all web pages and therefore well supported and well documented. There are various ways of importing and exporting documents. Essay also features sending texts as formated HTML emails like you are used from the desktop. Word and character counting gives you control of your works progress as you type. ??? SYNCHRONIZATION ???

For wireless sync the free Dropbox service is used. Link Essay with Dropbox in the settings dialog and local files and those already existing on Dropbox will be synched. If two files with the same name but with different content exist a new file will be created ti give the user the choice on wich to keep. Only folder and no subfolders are supported for sync. Dropbox offers an automatic version control, this way old files states and deleted files can be restored. For more info about Dropbox please visit http://www.dropbox.com.

How to delete a document?
Swipe on the document name in the document list and confirm by pressing the 'Delete' button.

How to rename a document?
Drag the document down until the document title on top is fully visible, then tap on the title to change it.

How to undelete files or recover old versions of files?
Use the version control feature of Dropbox .

Which tool can I use to edit the HTML files on MacOS?
On MacOS you can use TextEdit, OpenOffice, Microsoft Word and others for working with HTML files.

Are there more settings options available?
Yes, in the iPad's system settings is a section available with more Essay options. You can change e.g. the "." feature behaviour or change the email footer text. For reference you'll also find the version number of your current Essay installation.
