Microsoft Word is a feature-rich office staple and available on iOS.

It's Word, Jim, but not as we know it. Microsoft Word on iOS is pretty fully featured, but it's also a little bit different to its desktop counterpart. This is no bad thing, but Word does take some getting used to. As with Office for Windows or Mac, users can input text, images, and graphics; they can alter fonts and make documents look fancy; and you can share your created documents using either a cloud service, or as an email attachment. It's the power of Microsoft Word, right in your pocket. What more could you ask for?

Get connected

Get connected. Our iOS devices don't have USB drives, and so transferring Word documents from iOS to a computer was always going to be tricky for Microsoft. The company has got around this, however, by integrating cloud services like Dropbox into Word for iOS. This allows your document to sync between all of your Dropbox-connected devices seamlessly. No USB cable required!

Open, edit, save. You can open documents from your Dropbox account, too, and edit them on iOS before saving them once again. The whole process of using Word on iOS couldn't be easier. Sure, it looks and feels a little different, but this is nevertheless a powerful document editing tool, and it should be an integral part of your iOS office setup, especially if you're still required to use Word documents and files.

What is it about?

Microsoft Word is a staple for any office environment and is just one-third of the complete Office suite of applications from Microsoft that are available on iOS. Word on iOS is a powerful application that lets users view and read documents in a rich, revamped interface. However, if you want to create or edit documents, you will need an Office 365 subscription. You can try it free during the 30-day trial, however, so you can see if it's a good fit for your mobile office.

For those who...

  • Need to use Microsoft Word
  • Want to access Word documents on their iOS device
  • Subscribe to Microsoft 365

Not for those who...

  • Don't use Microsoft Word
  • Are looking for a basic text editor
  • Don't want to subscribe to Microsoft 365

Why we love it

It's Word on your iOS device, which means it's familiar to those that are already used to using that program for their documents. It also lets people transfer documents between their tablet and computer if they use a PC for work.
