AppAdvice International: UAE Apple Store, Secret app and iTunes Festival

August 26, 2014

Dubai, UAE

This week, we heard that Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) will reportedly be home to the largest Apple Retail Store in the world. In a report that surfaced online recently, we explained that “the Cupertino-based company is building the landmark store in what is currently the cinema complex of the pictured Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.”

Job listings have indeed been posted for the Dubai, UAE store, and it would appear that the venue will open its doors to the public during the first quarter of 2015. At last, Apple CEO Tim Cook’s 2013 visit to the United Arab Emirates makes perfect sense.

Secret

It’s bad news for Secret, the anonymous social sharing application for iOS, because this week the iOS app was booted out of the Brazilian App Store. The move was made “in compliance with a recent court order upholding the prohibition of anonymous freedom of speech in Brazil.”

Our article explained:

The Brazilian court ruling, which was issued a couple of days ago, ordered Apple and Google to pull Secret from their respective app stores within 10 days. But while Apple has abided by the ruling, Google is yet to remove the app from the Google Play Store.

Similar apps, however, are still available on the Brazilian App Store. We’ll see how the situation develops over the coming weeks.
