Survey results from comScore, a market research firm, indicate that Tapulous' Tap Tap Revenge has been downloaded by one out of every three App Store users, making it the most popular application at the store. Tap Tap Revenge has been installed by 32 percent of iPhone owners, followed by Stylem Media's Backgrounds with 27 percent, and Flipside 5's Touch Hockey: FS5 with 26 percent. Of course, many of the top applications are free. Of the top 25 installed applications, 12 of them are games. Most of the non-game applications are social networking clients like the free Facebook application. In addition to the download numbers, comScore also revealed data that provides information about iPhone application users. iPhone application users are 32 percent more likely than average to belong to households that earn at least $100,000 per year. Also, in the same vein, 54 percent of iPhone application users belong to a household that earned at least $75,000 per year. iPhone application users are three times more likely to visit popular gaming sites like xbox.com, and three times more likely to visit popular social sites like twitter.com. So what does that say about iPhone application users in general? Well, they make a lot of money and they are cheap considering the top downloaded applications are mostly free. How close are you to falling under some of these categories? I for one have never even heard of Backgrounds, but I can tell you I use Twitter quite often.
