Add Another One To The List: iPad Camera Connection Kit Works With USB Microphones

October 18, 2010
When it was first released, we made note that the iPad Camera Connection Kit had uses outside of just photo importing. It seems that one avid iPad user stumbled upon another device that seamlessly works when connected to the USB port of the $29 photo-focused iPad accessory. JeshuaSan decided to try his Guitar Hero microphone with his iPad, and it worked just fine to record an audio memo in Evernote. It's assumed that a Rock Band mic will work just as well. Ironically, these mics won't do you any good with the iOS versions of Guitar Hero or Rock Band. To my disappointment, the iDevice variants of these popular games simply use the same timed tapping gameplay for all instruments, including vocals. Along with memo taking, you could use an external microphone for other applications that would benefit from more accurate voice input. Some apps that quickly come to mind include Dragon Dictation, Glee Karaoke, and Skype. What are your thoughts on this newly discovered ability, and do you have any other apps that seem like a good candidate to use a regular microphone? [via Lifehacker]
