Firemint Spends Some Time Highlighting And Responding To Recent Announcements
I don’t usually make a lot of comments or posts. The main reason is that if there is something important to comment on, then there is usually something twice as important that I should be doing. ... So basically, I am busy, which is hopefully a good thing for our games! Some of the energy surrounding the company's latest news includes the upcoming racing sequel Real Racing 2, and updates to some of Firemint's already acclaimed games.
Rob responded to some negative feedback brought on by the short demonstration video of actual gameplay for Real Racing 2. He went on to remind fans that the title is still in development, including containing bugs and glitches. Admitting there is still plenty of 'polishing' to do, the team is working hard to conclude things by the "before Christmas" deadline they've established. There are a lot of separate components in the game, especially as it is being optimized for all iDevices, but each portion takes time and has different priorities. Rob did confirm that Real Racing 2 HD is coming but that news isn't quite as cheerful.
Also, for those who are asking, an iPad adaptation of Real Racing 2 is still a while off. We have big plans for it and it will take more time and a whole lot more work. The company has not abandoned the original Real Racing and Real Racing HD. In fact, Real Racing HD recently gained some big iOS 4 features. Not only do iPad owners running iOS 4.2.1 or later get the convenience of multitasking, but now have the opportunity to join in an online multiplayer match with up to three other racers via Game Center integration, including auto-match ability. iPhone and iPod touch fans need not feel neglected as Firemint is working hard to bring these features to that version as well.
In what is Firemint's 30th free app update (overall), Flight Control HD v1.06 was released to the App Store just before the recent North American holiday, which brought the promised iOS 4.2 and Game Center support. As with Real Racing, Flight Control will soon be updated, bringing these exciting features to iPhone and iPod touch owners. Despite already being available for the Sony PlayStation 3 Move, Nintendo DS, and Steam, Flight Control HD is indeed still headed to the upcoming Mac App Store. Mr. Murray's conclusion follows more of a Steve Jobs' approach to questions about upcoming and unreleased products.
A lot of people ask about new games, and our answer is always yes, we are working on new games and we have been for a long time, but no, we will not tell you what they are! What you probably aren’t so aware of is just how many prototypes we have built and discarded or put to the side because they just didn’t feel right yet. We want to create games that mean something, that are fresh and innovate in some key way. When we have a keeper, and when we have gotten it to the stage where it is close to finished and we are really loving it, we will let you know. Real Racing 2 is definitely a keeper!Flight Control and Real Racing are compatible with iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 2.2 or later. Game Center features require iOS 4.1 or later on an iPhone 3GS, 4, second generation iPod touch, or later. Flight Control HD and Real Racing HD are compatible with iPad.
