The Free Version Of SoundHound Includes Even More Sharing Abilities Plus A Big Surprise

December 23, 2010
The premium version of SoundHound ∞ was update a week ago to include some additional music ID sharing options, updated graphics, and a performance improvement. Today, Melodis brought those same upgrades to the free SoundHound experience. The three new sharing features include the option of sharing your newly found music to both your Twitter and Facebook accounts at once, automatically share a song via Twitter, Facebook, or both immediately after being identified, and the option to create a personalized comment for your music ID tweet or Facebook wall post. You can set and manage these new options in the SoundHound preferences under your iDevice's Settings app. It's time to unveil the big news. The free SoundHound's limitation of only five music IDs per month at no cost has been lifted.
To thank our users and celebrate our success, SoundHound now allows unlimited music recognition. You can ID songs, see lyrics, and browse artists to your heart's content.
I've been using the free version of Shazam up until today, but now being more than just a demo-esque version, I'll definitely be switching to the free version of SoundHound. Seeing as it's typically a "given" for paid users to get upset with this move of giving features they've paid for free to users, Melodis understands but they still have an argument to hopefully settle some premium SoundHound ∞ fans' rising anger.
What benefit is there to buying SoundHound ∞, when there are unlimited IDs in the free version? Paid users tell us that they purchased SoundHound ∞ for the ad-free experience, especially on the unlimited lyrics pages. But we want to go further than that, so we are making SoundHound ∞ the lead app for SoundHound's new features. It already includes exclusive links to artists' Wikipedia pages, and much more is to come in 2011.
I can't seem to find a significant flaw in their logic. Ad-free is typically a paid perk, SoundHound ∞ owners have been benefiting from unlimited IDs for a long time already, and premium users traditionally do get the chance to utilize new features notably sooner than the freebie crowd. Basically, there is certainly reason to have plunked down the cash. SoundHound and SoundHound ∞ are universal apps compatible with iPhone, 4G iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 3.0 or later. 2G and 3G iPod touch users can harness the power of this app but will need a microphone, such as Apple's iPhone Stereo Headset. SoundHound v3.6 is available in the App Store at no cost. Those looking for an ad-free and premium features like Wikipedia links, plus a "served first"in features experience can grab a copy of SoundHound ∞ for $4.99.
