Still Looking To Tinge Your iPhone 4? Check Out iColors By The SmartPhone Clinic
January 24, 2011
For many, the hype of a white iPhone 4 has disappeared. Be that as it may, there are still iPhone fans that want to make their iDevice a unique accessory to their mobile lives. Softpedia alerts iPhone 4 users of a new player in the iPhone coloring game, The SmartPhone Clinic.
The SmartPhone Clinic's new iColors Conversion Service and kits can turn that black iPhone 4 into a snazzy blue, pink, red, or white model. The SmartPhone Clinic does note to using OEM parts in the process, but Softpedia obtained further details.
According to one of the company’s representatives, the parts they use are from the same OEMs (original equipment manufacturer) Apple works with. The service is being offered with a 24-hour turn-around, not considering shipping time, and is guaranteed against defects for 90 days. Customers are able to pre-order now, with an estimated availability of around mid-February. White conversion is the cheapest at $200 plus shipping, blue and pink step up to a $230 price tag, and the vibrant red is going to cost you in excess of $250. For those more tech-savvy individuals, you can save some time and money by doing it yourself. Conversion kits are offered in blue, pink, and red. Each kit includes a new colored Home button, front glass with digitizer, and glass backplate. These too carry the 90-day warranty and 30-day money back guarantee. Each conversion kit is priced at $190 plus shipping. There appears to be no mention of tools or instructions included in the kit. This shouldn't be a problem for most, unless your iPhone is now equipped with "pentalobe" screws, but it still seems to be a little bit of a letdown. Thankfully, iFixit (iPad app) offers free repair walk-throughs anyway. Is this something you'd consider over just getting a cool custom case or "skin" for $50 or less? How does this compare, in your opinion, to the even more customizable ColorWare service?
