Mr. Reader For iPad: A Serious Reeder Competitor?

Mr. Reader For iPad: A Serious Reeder Competitor?

April 5, 2011
Mr. Reader is a recently released Google Reader client, that is currently available to download for the iPad ($2.99). The app is well designed and looks great - in fact, it looks so good, Mr. Reader may well be a serious competitor for Reeder (our favorite Google Reader client). As outlined by the app's developer in Mr. Reader's release notes, key features of the application include:
  • Google Reader synchronization
  • Supports starred, shared, friend's shared and tagged items
  • Mark items as read/unread
  • Search and add new feeds
  • Folder management (create, rename, delete)
  • Feed management (rename, delete, assign to folders)
  • Tag management (create, rename, delete, assign tags to feed items)
  • Reorder your folders, feeds and tags
  • Image caching for offline reading
  • Shows the embedded images in 2 different sizes
  • View content; Switch between RSS, Web, Instapaper Mobilizer
  • Different themes
Furthermore, Mr. Reader supports a variety of third party services, including: Facebook, Instapaper, Read It Later, and more. The app can also shorten URLs (goo.gl, TinyURL, is.gd, bit.ly), and users can share articles or links to articles via email. I've been playing around with Mr. Reader for a while now, and I have to admit: While I'm a loyal Reeder fan, Mr. Reader is very impressive. It runs well, looks great, and is an excellent alternative if you've grown bored with Reeder. Currently, Mr. Reader is available to download for $2.99. Obviously, you'll need a Google Reader account to use the app (you can sign up for one here) - and be sure to subscribe to the AppAdvice RSS feed once you're all set up!
