May 8, 2011
Some pandas, a sound hound, and getting ready for 2012 are some of the topics part of the best iPhone apps of the past week. The AppAdvice iPhone App Of The Week: Frisbee® Forever by Kiloo Have you ever wanted to control a Frisbee remotely, and be able to twist and turn it in midair? In Kiloo's latest game you can. Frisbee® Forever offers you a behind-the-shoulder perspective of a Frisbee flight as you guide it around various obstacles. You must guide the Frisbee through various scenarios, such as: wild west deserts, tropical islands, and parks. The environments are varied and full of detail. There are also 100 different levels to complete and 100 Frisbees to collect. Each Frisbee you collect comes with its own design and color. Frisbee® Forever – Released: May 5 (free, universal); original article New Releases Adobe Story Although they have yet to release their new creative apps for the iPad, Adobe Systems did drop a surprise into the App Store today. Adobe Story is available for the iPhone/iPod touch. According to Adobe, “Adobe Story is an online service that helps you efficiently create scripts or outlines that serve as blueprints for your video projects.” As such, it integrates directly with Adobe’s new Premiere Pro CS5.5 application. However, you don’t need to purchase Premiere to benefit from Story. In fact, any inspiring writer that has a story to tell may utilize the service and app. Adobe Story – Released: May 3 (free); original article   iEditor - All in One The app, recently released in the App Store, allows users to run code on their iOS device. As outlined in the app's release notes, iEditor supports over 50 programming languages - all of which feature a "Hello World" prebuilt program that users can view and edit (see below for a complete list of languages). Furthermore, because iEditor is universal, the same copy will run natively on all of your iOS devices. iEditor - All in One – Released: May 5 ($1.99, universal); original article   Updated Instagram Instagram, the popular photo-taking app for the iPhone has received a nice update. The app is now faster to use and includes a new filter sure to please its many users. Created by Burbn, Inc., Instagram Version 1.6.5 includes faster navigation between sections. This is very much noticeable and eliminates the slight lag time that was evident between sections in previous versions. Instagram - Updated: May 3 (free); original article   Land-a Panda Big Pixel Studios is sending Yang Guang into a brand new environment on his journey to make his way to Tian Tian. Land-a Panda and Land-a Panda HD v1.1 adds a new control option, new animations, and more alongside the new puzzle content. Yang Guang has been through Panda Land, Snow World, Roof Tops, and Panda Zoo to end up on Panda Island. The 20 Panda Island levels add new challenges, like springs and Lo-Pan Guang bullies. Lo-Pan Guang fires from cannon to cannon in hopes of deflecting Yang from his desired path. The other big feature of v1.1 is the new Action Button. Previously, firing Yang out of cannons required tapping on the specific cannon at the right moment, however, the Action Button allows the player to use a single button at the bottom of the screen to activate whatever cannon Yang is currently in. Further changes and improvements to Land-a Panda and Land-a Panda HD v1.1 include enhanced panda animations, dynamic menu backgrounds, three new Game Center achievements, and a new Game Center leaderboard to go along with the new world. Land-a Panda – Updated: May 3 ($.99); original article   Air Video – Watch your videos anywhere! The very popular app, Air Video, has been updated. The universal application has been updated to version 2.4.7 and supports streaming from computers running on either Mac OS X or Windows operating systems. Among the benefits of video streaming are saving memory space and allowing you to store the videos on another device. This way, as long as you are connected to 3G or Wi-Fi the app streams the content wirelessly as you watch the video. The other benefit is the on the fly file conversion that allows you to watch videos stored in various file formats that aren't supported on iDevices natively. Normally, if you wanted to watch videos that are stored as Divx or AVI files, you would have to convert them to the MPEG-4 format first. Air Video – Watch your videos anywhere! – Updated: May 4 ($2.99, universal); original article   Nano Panda Nano Panda by Unit9 may, at first glance, look like a Land-a Panda knock off. That's at least what I thought when I first noticed it in the app store. It does bare some similarities (such as the canon concept), but I am pleased to say it can stand on its own two feet and is easily just as fun. Actually, I think it is more fun. The story is unique. A panda is shrunk down to nano size in order to destroy evil atoms that have infiltrated a science lab. The gameplay is based on physics. Magnetism is the primary strategic concept and keeps the puzzles challenging and fun. Nano Panda – Updated: May 4 ($.99, universal); original article   Political Fury: Primary 2012 Edition Super Boise's political information and entertainment app, Political Fury, has been updated for the 2012 presidential primary. Political Fury: Primary 2012 Edition adds 2012 candidate information, plus forums and lots of new content. Beginning with the basics, Political Fury: Primary 2012 Edition adds new questions and new categories to the political party knowledge competition quiz game, plus social network integration to share the victories and many other tidbits to the world via Twitter and Facebook. There are two major additions to the Political Fury app, and one is the Primary 2012 Center. The Primary Center lists all of the current running candidates, and offers up political-centric profiles for each one. Along with the overview topics, check out the top three notable positions and notable criticisms, Twitter feed, Facebook page, campaign page, Wikipedia entry, YouTube channel, and even a "fun fact." Political Fury: Primary 2012 Edition – Updated May 5 ($.99, universal); original article   SoundHound The popular music tagging app, SoundHound, got polished up a bit this week. The minor update brought user interface tweaks, performance and stability improvements, plus an expansion on the social-networking integration. SoundHound's user interface has only been slightly modified to provide better consistency and emphasize the sharing ability. On the artist, album, and song information panes, the Download on iTunes button has moved up for iPhone and iPod touch users to accommodate the now double-sized Share button. Along with making things more consistent, the Bookmark and Share buttons now have the same raised look as the Download button for quicker locating.
