Jailbreak Only: PdaNet Updated - Now Hides Unauthorized Tethering From Carriers

May 6, 2011
The free jailbreak tethering app - PdaNet - has recently been updated. Now, users of the app who are tethering without the required data plan have the option of hiding their usage of PdaNet from carriers, which is definitely a handy feature. Back in March, AT&T started warning MyWi users that a DataPro plan is required to tether smart phones to another device. Understandably, this got a lot of people worried - AT&T's threat was that the carrier would automatically enrol guilty customers in its DataPro 4GB plan (which costs a pricy $45/month). However, PdaNet now has a solution to this issue. Added in a recent update to the app is a new toggle switch: "Hide Usage." According to TiPb, when this setting is enabled, the app "[masks] packets sent through the network so your carrier can’t tell if the data is coming from a device other than your iPhone." Currently, PdaNet is available to download in Cydia for free. With the app, users can tether either via Wi-Fi or USB. Furthermore, the full version of the app - which allows users to connect to "secure websites" - is available to purchase for $15.95, as opposed to the usual price of $29.00. Check out the latest version of PdaNet, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
