Here's The Real Life Version Of That Leaked iPhone 5 Icon

September 1, 2011

Yesterday, we told you how Apple's Photo Stream beta software included an image of what appeared to be a brand new smart phone. The icon appeared to depict an iPhone handset that had a larger screen, and what appeared to be a new Home button. Now, 9to5Mac has posted a mock-up image of how that iPhone would look like in real life, if it did indeed reference an upcoming handset.

You can check out the image above. However, there's more. The website also cites information provided by a source, which claims that this is not the iPhone 5, but is instead the cheaper iPhone handset Apple is rumored to be releasing alongside the fifth generation smart phone.

Before, this has been referred to as the "iPhone 4S," because various leaked parts have suggested that the handset will look similar to the iPhone 4. As a result, we assumed that the iPhone 5 handset would feature a redesign.

The article published by 9to5Mac claims that both handsets will feature a new design, and while the validity of the website's source is obviously questionable, we're also very skeptical simply because of the leaked iPhone 4S parts we've already seen. However, the website does offer a mock-up of an iPhone 5 handset with a larger screen, based on the Photo Stream icon:

It could be that the Photo Stream icon represents the new design iPhone 5 handset, and that we'll still see an iPhone 4S that matches the leaks we've already told you about. On the other hand, 9to5Mac's source could be right, and both handsets might feature a new design. However, there is a third possibility - that the leaked Photo Stream icon has nothing at all to do with the design of the iPhone 5 design, and is instead a generic smart phone icon. We'll keep you posted.
