Dev-Team: Don't Hold Your Breath For Siri On Non-iPhone 4S Devices

One of the best features of Apple's iPhone 4S handset is Siri - an intelligent voice recognition and text-to-speach service, which (unsurprisingly) is launching as an iPhone 4S exclusive. However, if you were hoping that a bit of hacking, and maybe even a simple jailbreak tweak would bring the service to non-iPhone 4S devices, don't hold your breath. Because according to the iPhone Dev-Team, this will involve piracy, meaning it's something that the team will not attempt.
The news came in a tweet published by @MuscleNerd earlier today:
Anyone hoping for a "port" of Siri from iPhone4S: pending a very low-level A5 exploit, it likely can't be done without piracy :(He added:
(only way to extract Siri files from iPhone4S filesystem without pirating is to have the main FS keys, requiring low-level exploit)This doesn't mean that it's impossible, but it does mean that the iPhone Dev-Team likely isn't going to play a part in the mission to port Siri to a non-iPhone 4S device. Hopefully, the iPad 3 (or maybe even the iPad 2, by the time iOS 6 rolls round) will get the feature - because Siri is just way too cool to limit it to just one iOS device. We'll keep you posted.
