Bad news for those of you hoping to grab an unlocked iPhone 4S this month. While preorders for carrier-locked handsets (available with AT&T, Verizon and Sprint) opened recently, Apple notes on its website that the unlocked, unsubsidized version of the iPhone 4S won't be available until November, 2011.
Over in Europe, Apple fans can preorder unlocked iPhone 4S handsets from the Apple Online Store. Here in the UK, the only option Apple is offering at its website is for users to drop at least £499 on an unlocked handset - in order to purchase a carrier-locked, subsidized iPhone 4S we need to visit carriers' websites and buy the iPhone there.
In the United States, the unlocked iPhone 4S handset will be available for $649 (16 gigabytes), $749 (32 gigabytes) and $849 (64 gigabytes) when it launches. We'll keep you posted.
