Jailbreak Only: Send My Location - Share Your Location Using The Messages App

October 28, 2011
A new jailbreak tweak called "Send My Location" allows iPhone owners to easily share their current location via SMS. Apple's recently released "Find My Friends" iOS app also allows users to share their location with friends and family. However, there are a couple of downsides to the service. First, the application requires iOS 5 (and therefore isn't compatible with older iOS devices, like the iPhone 3G). And second, you have to enable the service and install the app in order to use it. However, with "Send My Location," users simply touch an icon in the top-left corner of the Messages app and a link to their current location is pasted into the SMS message. The link can then be opened using the built-in Maps app. This means you don't need "Find My Friends" or iOS 5 downloaded on your handset or your friend's handset in order to share locations between the two iPhones. Obviously, your own handset needs to be jailbroken, and you need to have installed the free "Send My Location" tweak. But this isn't a huge ask, especially if you're already rocking a jailbroken iPhone. I like the sound of this jailbreak tweak. It's simple, effective and most importantly, free. Take a look at "Send My Location" in the Cydia Store now. As mentioned, it's available to download for free (via the BigBoss Repository). [via Redmond Pie]
