Despite The Update: Many iPhone 4S Users Still Reporting Battery Issues

November 11, 2011
Hours after Apple released iOS 5.0.1 that was supposed to fix the reported battery life issues with the iPhone 4S, we’ve received numerous reports that the update hasn’t helped. In fact, one look at Apple’s own support forum seems to indicate the update has done nothing to resolve this issue. In fact, as of this hour, there are 275 pages from angry customers on this issue in the support forum. Comments include:
Upgraded to 5.0.1 this morning.  Still draining at the exact same rate.  Unplugged with a full charge 2 1/2 hours ago, and already down to 80% with light usage.  Just lost 2% during a 15 minute shower.  I see no difference at all. Same problem here. After updating my iPhone4 to iOS 5.0.1 I've lost 50% of battery in 3 hours. I've only listened to a podcast for 15min and the rest of the time the phone was locked still.
First recognized soon after the iPhone 4S was released, the iDevice’s battery life issue is likely caused by a location services bug. Soon after the bug was uncovered, AppAdvice published a report, "Here Are 10 Ways To Improve Battery Life On The iPhone 4S.” If you are still experiencing battery problems even with the update, please review this article. As a reminder, iOS 5.0.1 is available over the air or via iTunes. According to Apple, in addition to offering a battery life solution, this update includes:
  • Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
  • Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
  • Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
  • Contains security improvements
If you are experiencing similar battery life issues on your iDevice even after installing iOS 5.0.1, we’d love to hear from you. Please let us know by using the comments below.
