Former Apple CEO Sculley Discusses His Relationship With Jobs - Mentions The "iTV"

January 15, 2012
In a recent interview with the BBC, former Apple CEO John Sculley discussed his relationship with the late Steve Jobs, his portrayal in Walter Isaacson's best-selling biography, and his opinions regarding Apple's current position in the technology industry. Though the entire article is a must-read for any Apple fan, one section will be of particular interest for those of you hoping for an Apple-branded "smart TV." Towards the end of the BBC's interview, Sculley is questioned about this mythical product, and answers:
I remember that Walter Isaacson said that Steve told him before he died that he had figured the problem out of how to do a great TV experience. I think that Apple has revolutionised every other consumer industry, why not television? I think that televisions are unnecessarily complex. The irony is that as the pictures get better and the choice of content gets broader, that the complexity of the experience of using the television gets more and more complicated. So it seems exactly the sort of problem that if anyone is going to change the experience of what the first principles are, it is going to be Apple.
For a while now, rumors regarding a true "iTV" have been circulating online, with some suggesting that it might be powered by Siri. In the rest of the interview, John Sculley discusses everything from the Apple Newton to the Macintosh Office, and Steve's 1980s depression. Like I said, it's worth reading through: head over to the BBC for the full-length interview now, and post your thoughts in the comments. [via 9to5Mac]
