Angry Birds Space Promises New Characters And Gameplay

February 17, 2012
After seemingly conquering every part of the Earth, the Angry Birds are heading to the stars. Rovio announced today that the next major installment of the franchise, Angry Birds Space, will be hitting mobile devices on March 22. Coming after mega hits Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio, the fourth major game will see the birds fly across new planets while dealing with zero gravity and new gameplay features. And while talking to Yahoo! Games, Rovio officials said the new game is the largest launch in the franchise since the original debuted to massive popularity in the App Store in 2009. The original version has been downloaded more than 700 million times across iOS and other mobile platforms. Angry Birds also just recently appeared on Facebook.
"We think fans are really going to love it because we've already gotten amazing feedback on the physics of our games," said Andrew Stalbow, GM of Rovio North America. "They're so accurate and easy to grasp that some teachers use Angry Birds in their lessons about projectile motion."
Exact gameplay specifics are still sketchy, but Rovio did promise some brand new birds and different superpowers to compliment the well-known, three-star completion system. NASA and National Geographic are also launch partners for the game. And hopefully you're not tired of the Angry Birds on speakers, iPhone cases, T-shirts and everything else conceivable. Rovio is planning on a multimedia blitz for the game that will include more merchandise. Rovio is promising more information soon on the Angry Birds Space website. For now, you'll have to be satisfied with a short teaser trailer. Are you excited about a new Angry Birds game, or have our winged friends gotten old?
