Another Look At The Purported iPad 3 Display By iFixit

While MacRumors was able to obtain, and offer apparent confirmation that the iPad 3 will sport a high-resolution, 2048x1536 "Retina" screen, iFixit recently did more examination of the display and posted a video with their findings.
MacRumors sent iFixit, an electronics repair site, the purported display for a closer look. Click here if you can't see the video.
In the video, iFixit says that both displays are remarkably similar in appearance with the iPad 3 display weighing only .6 ounces less than the iPad 2's.
While iFixit did attempt to connect the display to an iPad 2, they were unsuccessful because the iPad 3 display connector is larger than its predecessor and couldn't connect to the logic board.
Since the display couldn't be powered on, iFixit put the display under the microscope. And just like MacRumors, they found the display pixels to be doubled, making it the fabled 2048x1536 resolution at 260 pixels per inch. The pixel count doesn't meet the "retina" designation of 300 ppi that Steve Jobs mentioned during the iPhone 4 unveiling, but that's a discussion for another day.
Beyond the increased display, the tablet is expected to be announced on March 7 and feature 4G LTE and a new A5X chip. So does another confirmation of the iPad 3's screen resolution make you want to stand in line at your local Apple store yet?
