Fruit Ninja Store Set To Expand With More Fruit-Slashing Merchandise

February 23, 2012
Last December, iOS game developer Halfbrick partnered with brand merchandise company ToyFoundry to launch an online store dedicated to the former's hugely successful iOS game Fruit Ninja. Initially, only a trio of plush toys inspired by the game are available in the store. But Halfbrick has recently announced that it has also partnered with several other companies to put out more kinds of Fruit Ninja merchandise for the game's countless fans worldwide. "Fruit Ninja continues to be one of the most popular apps in the world, with a nearly two-year run on the Top 10 Paid App lists worldwide," says Shainiel Deo, CEO of Halfbrick. "Working with partners to create Fruit Ninja products has always been part of our long-term plan, but we have been very selective, both in choosing our partners and in approving their products." For the Fruit Ninja store's toys section, Halfbrick has agreed to have its popular brand licensed by Basic Fun, Jazwares, Nanco-Nancy Sales, and Mattel. These companies are expected to add to the brand's fun factor by coming up with amusement products ranging from handheld electronics to board games. The store will also feature Fruit Ninja apparel, including bags by Bioworld Merchandising, clothing by Hybrid and sleepwear by MjC, as well as miscellaneous products from Coveroo, Calendar Holdings, SmileMakers, Trends International and Healthy Food Brands. In the off chance that you might not yet have heard of Fruit Ninja, it's an addictive touch-based game for the iPhone and iPad where a quick succession of various fruits are tossed from the bottom of the screen to be sliced with quick swipes of your finger, all the while avoiding the bombs that get thrown amid the fruity chaos. Its popularity among casual gamers is perhaps surpassed only by that of Angry Birds, whose success prompted its creators way back in 2010 to start selling official merchandise featuring the titular avian characters and their porcine adversaries. Now, Fruit Ninja looks set to slash the competition in the mobile gaming merchandise arena. According to Deo, some of the new products will become available this week, while others are planned for release later this year or next year. Surely I'm not the only one who's excited to own a pair of underwear with a sliced watermelon on it, am I?
